Tibetan Lotus

In this lotus flower I used the Tibetan Aum symbol, which is different from the Hindu symbol below, which you see more often. I'll be away a few days. See you saturday! Namaste

My Workspace

(my desk) In this house I have no studio. I long to have one but at this moment we don't have the money to make the extension where our new kitchen will be and on the 1st floor my studio. I have it all in my head and it will look very different from my work space now. I'm sharing my husbands study, which we renovated last year. I love to renovate/rebuild etc. (behind me) This is what's going on behind my back. I had my worktable there before, which was much larger, but we rebuilt the fireplace with an antique English cast iron Nottage Fireplace, so I had to move to the other side of the room, where my workspace was reduced to 2 square metres. I'm very sloppy, so it's a mess and chaos most of the time. Here on the picture my desk is quite tidy, since I tidied my desk last week. Part of my holiday intention. (beside me) In the house we had before I had my own studio. Here I could make a studio upstairs in our guestroom, but our animals are not allowed upstairs so I don't want to work there. I like to have them around me. (above me) My studio will look very different than this room, which I designed and decorated myself. My room will have lots of color and lots of stuff. Things which are still in boxes since we moved here. Oh wouldn't it be nice to have my own space again! To unpack my things. I hope I can show you this space in a while. Suki asked: How important is your workspace to you and to your work, whether you are writers or visual artists, musicians or dancers? Do the aesthetics of the room or space affect you and the work you do? Or can you work anywhere, in a cold water garret or a dark closet? The answer is above and yes it is important, but what's more important is how happy I feel. In the house where I had my own (spacious) studio I was unhappy. I rather create here on my 2 square metres. Happiness makes creativity flow. I werk liever op mijn beperkte 2 meter hier. Geluk laat creativiteit stromen. My little bread basket

A mandala made from the picture below in PSP Nog een mandala gemaakt van Sjimmie in het mandje met PSP. I love my little bread basket! Ik ben gek op mijn kleine broodmandje! I can use it as a fortification. Or just to dose off.

Big Apple

I'm off to the Big Apple. Thanks everyone for all your comments. Today I had no time to spend behind the computer, to visit your blogs, had to play 2 tennis matches and pack in between. Later this week I'll be back. See you! The apple is a detail from this mandala I made voor Cees a few years ago.

Sjimmie Update

Oops what is this............a little black monster?! Oeps wat is dit..............een klein zwart monster?! Look at my hand, can you see how small he is? A mini-cat in a mini-bread basket before a mini-mandala. Future desk stalker. Mijn toekomstige pc stalker. Last saturday we collected Sjimmie. The first 2 days I was a little worried . He had diarrhea he was squeaking all the time, he was sooooo small (for 8 weeks I think he is very small) and a little skinny. He missed his mom and brothers and sisters, I found him behind the curtain on a transformer to keep him warm (he is at least smart). So I carried him around in my shirt a lot. And we gave him a small heated blanket. Monday he did better, No diarrhea anymore, he ate well and started to feel at home. Now all my worries are gone. He plays, runs around, eats and has gained some weight. Today he purred for the first time while on my chest. It made me so happy. Sjimmie has stolen my heart already.

My Giggles

I'm proud to show you the art of Forever Young on my blog. These are the giggles I have chosen when she kindly gave away her giggles. I must admit I wanted them all, it was hard to choose but I found these ones the funniest and the saddest. I wanted to share them again with you. FY, thanks you big hearted friend of mine! FY, bedankt mijn ruimhartige vriendin! Forever Young

This African Beauty I painted for my dear friend Forever Young. The process you can see in the YouTube video below. It was fun to work at her mandala. In the beginning I had a "painters-block" for a while but then it was gone and everything started to flow. I couldn't sleep one night because of all the ideas and feelings. later I finished the mandala without any further interruptions. It was like a river who doesn't need to be told which way to flow. If you want to know more about the used symbols please read Forever Young's post Deze Afrikaanse Schoonheid heb ik geschilderd voor mijn lieve vriendin Forever Young.

Conch

In Dami's mandala I painted the conch shell (7 right turning conch shells in the purple circle) In Dami's mandala heb ik de conch schelp geschilderd (7 rechtsdraaiende schelpen in de paarse cirkel) Shells which spiral to the right in a clockwise direction are a rarity and are considered especially sacred. The right-spiralling movement of such a conch is believed to echo the celestial motion of the sun, moon, planets and stars across the heavens. The hair whorls on Buddha's head spiral to the right, as do his fine body hairs, the long curl between his eyebrows (urna), and also the conch-like swirl of his navel. In the middle a viola appalagiensis, the smallest pansy violet in the world. Violets are symbols of protection, fairy tale magic, modesty, hidden talents, friendship and love. The Eight Auspicious Symbols of Buddhism De Heilige Conch Schelp

Water Please!

This is rare, Minoes and Spook together. They are waiting for me to fill the glass with mineral water. Minoes (the blue point) is always on my desk making it very hard for me to paint or use the computer. She always drinks from my glass or the water bowl for my brushes. Now Spook has discovered this wonderful water as well and the desk. Now I don't have to be afraid to have too much space on my desk or that my water will evaporate. Spook (the seal point) is with us since one year, when she came here she was 7 years old. Although she is a gentle spirit and easy going as all Holy Birmans, she needed time to acostumize. I feel honored that she want to share my desk, water and the company of Minoes. Minoes is here 4 years. She was 8 when we got her from the shelter. From day 1 it was as if she had always lived with us. Here she is enjoying the sunshine together with Koekie.

Happy 4th of July!

This is my own mandala. I got this mandala from my dear friend Eveline 7 years ago. Isn't it beautiful? It is made by Beika Kruid, an artist who lives in Groningen. It's the mandala that made me start painting mandalas myself, the start of my mandala-madness. Dit is mijn eigen mandala. Gekregen van mijn lieve vriendin Eveline. Zeven jaar geleden. Happy 4th of July! Beika Kruid

Sjimmie Mandala

This mandala was made from the picture from the post before, which was almost a mandala. " If it ain't a mandala, I'll make one of it!"

Sjimmie

And his name is.................................. Sjimmie! En we noemen hem Sjimmie!
