The last day of the year! I want to thank all by bloggbuddies for an inspirational year. Without readers a blog is just a blog, without comments a blog is boring. Without blogfriends cyberspace is just big and lonely! This heart is for all of you and thank you for being there! Hope to see a lot of you in the next year! This award I got from my dear friend Soulbrush! I guess you all know her blog, if not this is the perfect day to meet her! I´m not so good in placing these awards on my blog and following the rules, but I feel very honored and happy when I get one! The idea of having to pick people makes me very uncomfortable, I love all my readers and my favo bloggs so you are all nominated! Yesterday I received a wonderful gift from Lolo! Animal angel from the other side of the ocean and amazing artist! 3 wonderful cards. This one looks a lot like Sjimmie doesn´t it, except Sjimmie has no worry or fear. But I love these shy cats, the love they give in return when you take care of them is heartwarming! Sjimmie takes everything for granted, but yeah that´s the way it should be, not every cat is so fortunate. And these 2 mandalas! Aren´t they fabulous! You can order your own at her Etsy Shop, but I warn you it will be difficult to control yourself, they are all gorgeous! Thanks Lolo for these fabulous gifts! Cactus Monday (#16) Food!

Earlier this year we were in Bonaire for one week. Here a picture of Donkey Paradise (read more about it here). I enjoy this picture. It brings back good memories; While seeing it in my mind I can still hear the sound of 400 donkeys eating, so relaxing! In this pictures the cacti on the background, both cacti and donkeys know well how to survive under extreme circumstances. Inspiring. We will leave early today, we will visit my mom who turns 84 today! And after that we will continue to my SIL who lives in Naarden. Hope to visit my cactus monday friends when I return home tonight. For now Happy Cactus Monday! In juni dit jaar zijn we een week naar Bonaire geweest. Hier een foto van Donkey Paradise. Lees meer hierover hier. Ik bewaar mooie herinneringen aan deze foto´s. Het geluid van 400 ezels die eten zal ik nooit vergeten, daar werd ik helemaal rustig van! Op deze foto de grote cacti op de achtergrond. beiden weten onder barre omstandigheden te overleven. Inspirend. We vertrekken vroeg vandaag. Ma is jarig, ze is 84 geworden! En daarna gaan we naar mijn lieve schoonzus in Naarden. Ik hoop vanavond bij thuiskomst mijn cactus maandag vrienden te bezoeken. Voor nu Happy Cactus Monday!

ATC peacock mandala

After Christmas yesterday I took an easy day today. This mandala I did today, and I experimented with the material and speed. I must admit I like this loose way of working. Soon I will start a birthmandala, which will be acrylic on canvas again. I look forward to start a big one but these ATC cards are fun. They are like neat little projects. Na de kerst gisteren heb ik vandaag een rustige dag gehouden. Deze mandala heb ik net gemaakt. Een beetje geexperimenteerd met materiaal en snelheid. Ik moet toegeven dat deze losse manier van werken ook wel iets heeft. Binnenkort begin ik weer aan een geboortemandala, acryl op canvas. Ik heb er weer zin in om aan een grote te werken, maar deze ATC´s zijn leuk. Het zijn net kleine overzichtelijke projectjes.

Vrolijk Kerstfeest!

This one is for you SB! Here in Holland we celebrate 2nd Christmas Day as well. Completely silly, probably invented for in laws. Yesterday we celebrated at home with the kids and Myrthe, their big sister. Today we will celebrateat my brothers with the whole family! Deze is voor jou SB! Hier in Holland vieren we 2 dagen kerst. Totaal onzinnig, waarschijnlijk ooit bedacht voor de schoonfamilie. Gisteren hebben we thuis gevierd met de kinderen en Myrthe, hun grote zus. Vandaag vieren we het bij mijn broer met de hele familie!

The gifts are already here!

It isn´t Christmas yet, but the gifts are already here! Here are a few things I received in the mail these last few days! Today I received Mim´s Moo cards! Aren´t they pretty! I also received 2 handmade cards from Diana which I won at a give away at Fannie´s (Imagine , Create, Inspire). Ain´t I lucky! This beautiful bracelet came in the mail this week. A beautiful gift from Diana. Ain´t I blessed! Mim (Auntie Mim's) included 3 ATC´s in her mail! Three little work of art. Aren´t they stunning! This award I received from Lisa (M. Griffin). Thanks! I have to nominate 5..............but I find that very hard , so let me sleep on it! Thanks Lisa! Ain´t I blessed to have you as a blogging friend! An award from Fannie! She is a most talented and generous blogfriend! I will get back to you with the rules and nominees. But ain´t I lucky to get all these gifts before it is even Christmas! Thanks everyone!

Christmas decoration

Hi everyone! Here is a Christmas ornament I did many years ago. I sawed it by hand from plywood and painted it. It was from a lovely magazine I bought in the US. I made a lot of things from plywood that time and then I bought a machine and have never done anything with that...... Now isn´t that strange? I´m behind with blogging, have been decorating the house, doing shopping etc. Today I cleaned and tidied the house. Tomorrow I will visit my parents to help them buy new teeth and glasses, but I have to see if my dad is up to that. He returned from a 24 hour stay in the hospital where he had a blood transfusion. They are really fragile both. I will do my blog round now and tomorrow, hope to catch up soon. Have a nice sunday! Hallo allemaal, Hier een kerstornament, die ik jaren geleden gemaakt heb. Gefiguurzaagd met de hand van triplex en daarna geschilderd. Het patroon kwam uit een geweldig tijdschrift uit de VS. In die tijd heb ik heel veel gefiguurzaagd. Later kreeg ik een figuurzaagmachine en daarna nooit meer iets gedaan. Hoe gek is dat? Ik loop achter met bloggen. Zowel met posten als reageren. Ik heb het huis versierd opgeruimd en schoongemaakt vandaag, kaartjes gemaakt en verstuurd, maar nog lang niet klaar. Morgen ga ik naar Rotterdam, een dag mijn ouders helpen. Misschien voor een gebit en bril kijken, maar eerst eens kijken of mijn vader het wel aankan. Hij is vandaag thuis gekomen na een 24 uurs verblijf in het ziekenhuis. Hij heeft bloedtransfusie gehad. Ze zijn erg kwetsbaar allebei. Ik ga zo verder met mijn blogrondje en misschien morgen de rest. Nog een fijne zondag!

Come in for cookies / Christmas BLT

When you´re in my street you know you are at the right place when you see this mini Christmas tree in the doorway. Welcome! Come in! Gather around the tree and I will serve you Swedish pepperkakor. Here are some recipes in English, Swedish and Dutch. "A traditional Swedish Christmas recipe, they are crispy, brown, and delicious plain or decorated. Different from your everyday gingersnap!" Original recipe yield 4 -5 dozen INGREDIENTS (Nutrition) 2/3 cup packed brown sugar 2/3 cup molasses 1 teaspoon ground ginger 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves 3/4 tablespoon baking soda 2/3 cup butter 1 egg 3 1/2 cups sifted all-purpose flour Add to Recipe Box My folders: Add to Shopping List Add a Personal Note DIRECTIONS Place butter in a large, heatproof bowl. In a medium saucepan, heat brown sugar, molasses and spices just to boiling point. Add baking soda and stir in. Pour this mixture over the butter and stir until it melts. Beat egg and mix in; add flour, a cup at a time, and blend thoroughly. Turn out onto a lightly floured board and knead 1-2 minutes. Wrap in waxed paper and chill until firm (about an hour). Preheat oven to 325 degrees F (170 degrees C). Roll out to approximately 1/8 inch thickness on a lightly floured board and cut into desired shapes. Place on greased baking sheets and bake for 8 - 10 minutes. Remove from sheets and cool on racks; may be decorated with piped icing or whatever else you like! Pepparkakor Ingredienser Portioner: ca 125 st 2 1/2 dl brun farin 3/4 dl ljus sirap 3/4 dl vatten 150 g smör eller margarin 1 msk kanel (malen) 1 msk ingefära (malen) 1 tsk kryddnejlikor (malda) 7-8 dl vetemjöl 1 1/2 tsk bikarbonat Tillagningstid: Över 20 min Svårighetsgrad: Medel Gör så här 1. Blanda farinsockret, sirapen och vattnet i en kastrull. Koka upp blandningen. 2. Lägg i matfettet och låt det smälta. Tillsätt kryddorna. 3. Låt massan kallna utan omrörning. 4. Rör i bikarbonaten och 6-7 dl av mjölet. Resten används till utbakning. 5. Linda in degen i plastfolie. Låt den stå kallt till nästa dag. 6. Sätt ugnen på 175°C. 7. Arbeta degen smidig på mjölat bord. Knåda ev in resten av mjölet. 8. Kavla ut degen tunt och ta ut kakor med mått. Lägg dem på smord plåt eller på bakplåtspapper. Grädda kakorna mitt i ugnen i 175°C, 6-8 min. 9. Låt kakorna svalna på plåten. Förvaras i burk i rumstemperatur eller i frys. Omschrijving De geur van versgebakken koekjes! Een lekker kopje thee! Dit deeg is in een half uurtje klaar maar moet wel een nachtje in de koelkast vooralleer te bakken. Ingrediënten -500gram suiker. -1/3lsiroop. -1ei. -500gram boter. -3dl slagroom. -2el.gemberpoeder. -2el gemalen kaneel. -2el gemalen kruidnagel. -1el gemalen kardemom. -1el maagzout(bicarbonaat). -1,3kg bloem. Bereidingswijze -Roer boter,suiker,ei en siroop tot een gladde massa. -Meng er de specerijen onder. -Vervolgens doe je er de geklopte room bij. -Meng bloem en bicarbonaat en roer door het beslag. -Meng tot je een los deeg bekomt. --Bestrooi met bloem en laat het deeg minstens een nacht in de koelkast rusten. -Neem dan een gedeelte van het deeg en rol dit dun uit op een op een met bloem bestoven werkblad. -Maak figuren met kerstvormpjes die in het deeg worden gedrukt,of maak vormpjes met een mes. -Bak de deegfiguurtjes in een oven van 200 graden gedurende 5 tot 10 minuten. Here is a mandala I painted a few years ago, with a golden eagle (aren´t they just amazing!) and in the middle a cactus! Can´t remember if it is an existing strain. Hier een mandala die ik een paar jaar geleden heb geschilderd, met een steenarend (zijn ze niet geweldig!) en een cactus in het midden. Ik kan me niet meer herinneren of het een bestaande soort is of verzonnen. Happy Cactus Monday!

Blue Moon

A blue moon is a name given to an irregularly timed full moon. Most years have twelve full moons which occur approximately monthly, but each calendar year contains those twelve full lunar cycles plus about eleven days to spare. The extra days accumulate, so that every two or three years there is an extra full moon (this happens every 2.72 years). Different definitions place the extra moon at different times - the extra moon is called a "blue moon". Op 1 juli 1997 om 05.58 u. was het Volle Maan, en op 30 juli 1997 om 12.35 u. was het opnieuw Volle Maan. Het was die maand dus tweemaal Volle Maan! Omdat dit verschijnsel niet al te vaak voorkomt, noemen Engelstaligen die tweede Volle Maan in een maan een 'Blue Moon' (Blauwe Maan). Ook bezigen zij de uitdrukking 'once in a Blue Moon' (= een zeldzaamheid). Wij zeggen op een blauwe maandag. Have a nice weekend! Een fijn weekend!

ATC

In San Francisco I went to 2 art supply stores: University Art and Utrecht. In the last shop I bought a wonderful set of Staedtler triplus fineliners. When I was about the leave the shop I saw little packages of ATC cards. I have never realized they were so small ( 2,5" x 3,5")! After the man behind the counter explained this was the same size as baseball and pokemon cards it made sense to me. I bought watercolor and canvas ATC's. What a fun size! I made this pink mandala in San Francisco and the green one yesterday at home. Now I have to find someone who wants to trade with me.........., but first I will paint a few more. In San Francisco ben ik naar 2 tekenwinkels gegaan: University Art en Utrecht. In de laatste winkel heb ik een mooie set Steadler triplus fineliners gekocht. Toen ik de winkel uit wilde gaan viel mijn oog op setjes ATC kaartjes. Ik had me nog nooit gerealiseerd dat deze ATC kaartjes zo klein waren (8,89 x 6,35 cm). De man uit de winkel legde uit dat het dezelfde maat is als baseball of pokemon kaartjes. Ja toen begreep ik het ineens. Ik heb aquarel papier en kleine canvasjes gekocht. Wat een leuk maatje! De roze mandala heb ik in San Francisco gemaakt, de groene gisteren hier thuis. Nu nog iemand vinden om mee te ruilen........, voorlopig zal ik er eerst maar eens een paar maken.

Pentacle / Pentagram

This pentagram card I made for Amy (Magical Musings), who won my give away. I thought she would like it. Here you can find the meaning of the pentagram. I have used it in many of my mandalas and it is a positive symbol, used with one point up. But I believe you can use it the other way around as well as long as your heart has the right intention. Thank God we not living in the Middle Ages anymore. I would have ended on a stake for sure. Believing in (almost) nothing and owning a black cat......... Deze pentagram kaart heb ik voor Amy (Magical Musings) gemaakt, die de verloting won. Ik dacht wel dat ze die mooi zou vinden. Door sommige mensen wordt dit symbool wel eens geassocieerd met verkeerde dingen, vooral met de punt naar beneden. Voor mij is het een positief symbool, die ik vaak in mijn mandala's heb gebruikt. Ik denk dat het belangrijk is met welke intentie in je hart je het gebruikt. Je kunt alles goed of slecht gebruiken. Gelukkig leven we niet meer in de Middeleeuwen, want dan was ik denk ik al lang op de brandstapel geeindigd; in (bijna) niets geloven en ook nog eens een zwarte kat hebben! BTW Amy picked the Hamsa Mini Mandala as her favorite. Hope you enjoy it! Tussen haakjes, Amy heeft de Hamsa Mini Mandala uitgekozen als haar favoriet. Veel plezier ermee!

Cactus Monday (#12)

Last Monday I posted a picture of Sjimmie beside my Christmas Cactus. This is what Teri wrote: OH what a beauty you are Sjimmie!! Elegant, regal, gorgeous and a perfect mascot for Cactus Monday! Hmm, how could we get him to pose with our logo? (A challenge for you Marianne) Well here is Sjimmie with the logo. Your wish is my command! Happy Cactus Monday! San Francisco (#2)

Today I rented a bike and went from pier 41 to Sausolito! I'm not a sporty type (except I like to play tennis) so I am quite proud of my achievement! The bridge I had to conquer. The bridge from the other side. The bridge taken from the ferry. Alcatraz. I enjoyed a real american lunch with a Californian Chardonnay. The palm trees are ready for christmas. I really enjoyed myself today! Cycled all the way to Sausolito. the weather was fantastic and I enjoyed the ride. Loved the smell of Eucalyptus along the way! And the view everywhere. In Sausolito I took the ferry back. Had lunch at pier 39 and walked around there. I took the streetcar back to market street and tried another shopping round. No stampedes today. I have been in 2 art supply stores, bought some clothes at the Old Navy, been to the Apple Store and the drugstore. What a day......and YES San Francisco is a wonderful city!

San Francisco

Hope everyone has had a lovely Thanksgiving! The day after, I was walking the streets and shops of San Francisco. Black Friday with a jet lag..................... Had to stay awake because of a 9 hour time difference. Enthusiastic I began my shopping marathon. But after a few hours I dragged myself to the hotel with sore feet and no energy left. I went to bed at 6 o'clock (stupid I know, but after being more than 24 hours awake I couldn't care less) So now I am awake at 2 o'clock in the morning. A YouTube video of a song we all know and which I still love. That must have been a time! I just talked to my husband on Skype and he told me that in NY a shop employee was trampled to death yesterday by customers. Isn't that sad ?! Sometimes I wish we could turn back the time.......

Mermaid

I found this cd with stuff from my old computer and some murals I did in the house we lived before. Here is a mural in the boys room. This is for Diana´s Daily Art Stop. Today´s challenge is Mermaids. When I saw that I had to think of this one. The mermaid is next to the door. I´m glad that I still have this picture......... Ik heb laatst een cd gevonden met dingen van mijn vorige computer en daarop stonden wat foto´s van muurschilderingen in mijn vorige huis. Dit is een muurschildering in de kamer van de jongens. Ik moest aan deze foto denken toen ik Diana´s Daily Art Stop blog las. Het thema van vandaag is mermaids. De zeemeermin zit naast de blauwe deur. Toch wel leuk dat ik deze foto nog heb......
