Ruud

In this mandala I painted a blue Morpho. Many Morpho butterflies are colored in metallic, shimmering shades of blue and green. These colors are not a result of pigmentation but are an example of iridescence: the extremely fine lamellated scales covering the Morpho's wings reflect incident light repeatedly at successive layers, leading to interference effects that depend on both wavelength and angle of incidence/observance.

  4. Marianne I can just see you hanging out the window sending us these beautiful images.

I think the blue morph is one of the most striking butterflies. I have only seen them in the big conservatories that house many butterflies here in the states. They are something to see for sure.

Your mandala is beautiful. All the shading is wonderful and the butterflies are like great exclamation points.

  5. Marianne,

This is really very beautiful. I love the colors and the introduction to the Blue Morpho - what a beautiful creature, indeed.

I love the other shapes you have used in this mandala to bring greater emphasis to the Blue Morpho. I also love the colors you have chosen to use.

    Thanks Marianne
