My Workspace

(my desk) In this house I have no studio. I long to have one but at this moment we don't have the money to make the extension where our new kitchen will be and on the 1st floor my studio. I have it all in my head and it will look very different from my work space now. I'm sharing my husbands study, which we renovated last year. I love to renovate/rebuild etc. (behind me) This is what's going on behind my back. I had my worktable there before, which was much larger, but we rebuilt the fireplace with an antique English cast iron Nottage Fireplace, so I had to move to the other side of the room, where my workspace was reduced to 2 square metres. I'm very sloppy, so it's a mess and chaos most of the time. Here on the picture my desk is quite tidy, since I tidied my desk last week. Part of my holiday intention. (beside me) In the house we had before I had my own studio. Here I could make a studio upstairs in our guestroom, but our animals are not allowed upstairs so I don't want to work there. I like to have them around me. (above me) My studio will look very different than this room, which I designed and decorated myself. My room will have lots of color and lots of stuff. Things which are still in boxes since we moved here. Oh wouldn't it be nice to have my own space again! To unpack my things. I hope I can show you this space in a while. Suki asked: How important is your workspace to you and to your work, whether you are writers or visual artists, musicians or dancers? Do the aesthetics of the room or space affect you and the work you do? Or can you work anywhere, in a cold water garret or a dark closet? The answer is above and yes it is important, but what's more important is how happy I feel. In the house where I had my own (spacious) studio I was unhappy. I rather create here on my 2 square metres. Happiness makes creativity flow. I werk liever op mijn beperkte 2 meter hier. Geluk laat creativiteit stromen. 1. Hi Marianne. This is great. YOur workspace is small, your plans large! Your room is beautiful. I love the ceiling, the fireplace, the floor. Your husband's desk and bookcases, your desk. And, the invisible kitties and dogs that surround you as you work. thanks for reposting those links too. I'll add you to the list on my post. Also, today I added Mary who shows her Cape Cod Studio. all these are so interesting,eh?

  2. Marianne,

This space is quite beautiful to be sure. I understand how you would want to be near your animals when you work. While I have a room to my own (sharing with my husband would not be an option as we are complete opposites), I also long for a well designed studio space. I keep reminding myself to be patient and the right thing will come at the right time.

This room, is lovely. I adore the floors and the fireplace you have put in. I love the windows and all of the books, too! It is a warm and welcoming space....oh, how I miss those special European spaces!

    This is so lovely Marianne!

    Thank you for sharing!

  3. Oh, how I can relate! I wonder, too, how it will feel when I again have a place to unpack my box of creativity supplies, have a project table and a few shelves. Oh, and windows!

  4. Gee, Marianne, you're right about it being tidy! My, but you are so clean! My space is messy, and that is why I'm in the basement. I love your room, though. You have very nice taste in decorating.

  6. This looks like a very peaceful space, yet happy and so sunny looking! I love seeing other spaces so thanks for posting this.
More sun would be wonderful in my space, it is the biggest drawback to being in the basement but I do treasure my own alone space.
