Cactus Monday (#30)

ATC on bristol board. I saw these ATC cards in Montreal and had no idea what it was so I bought it. Clear it is not meant for watercolor, what I used here....... Does someone know what Bristol Board is used for? Happy Cactus Monday!

  3. Bristol board is good for drawing with charcoal, pen, colored pencils.

I think you are lucky to find them. I have never seen any ATC cards anyplace. My shopping is limited. I just have to make my little cards.

  5. HCM! I have heard of bristol board, and tried to get it, to try. I have seen illustrators use it. I thought it came in large sizes only, so Lisa is right about you being lucky to get it. Good luck experimenting with it. You would not know that the watercolours did not work too well on it. This cactus and flower are gorgeous.

  8. This is beautiful Marianne!! I use bristol Board a lot...I love it actually! Mostly I do my acrylic paint and colored pencils on top when using it. If you get the vellum finish bristol board, that takes watercolors a bit better. It has a little more tooth. It's fabulous for pen and ink though. I just bought a 6x6 square pad of bristol board and got very excited when I saw that size!
    HCM my dear!!!

  15. Bristol Board is used for line drawing, pen and ink.
In the days before computers, graphic artists used it for their final camera art, technical drawings...

It has minimal bleed, so you get a very crisp line. Lovely to do Zentangules :-)
Your drawing is crisp and clean, which makes the color sparkle... lovely. Have a HCM!

  17. Happy Belated Cactus Monday!

I love Bristol Board, but not for watercolor/gouache. It's really great for pencil, charcoal, and ink work. I have used wet media on it before and it's ok but wet-media paper is a much better surface for paint.
