Animal Wednesday

I painted this cow for my friend Marja as a Christmas present. We were in a restaurant and she pointed at a cow on the wall there. Uttered her wish that one day she would like to have a cow painting in her home in France.
So this was a nice challenge for my Wednesday art class.
(nearly finished, I worked some more on the nose and the grass, see picture above)
Although this is out of my comfort zone I enjoyed working on it. Perhaps as it had an animal as subject.
I was pleased with the way it turned out.

 My brother's tree
Family dinner
 Josje got a Buddha
Felix and Josje.............they were both not feeling well. Felix has a serious cold and Josje had chickenpox :(

I had a nice Christmas with the family on Christmas Eve and yesterday Josje (our granddaughter) came for lunch with her parents.
Today it's 2nd Christmas day here in Holland. But we will just stay home and enjoy being with the 4 of us.
Tried to visit some blogs but half of them won't load.........So that's why I couldn't say merry Christmas to a few of my blog friends :(
I am having a lot of PC problems here lately I have to figure out whether it is our new modem , the connection or my PC....... Have to look into that, but I am not in the mood for that right now.

Hope all of you have had a wonderful Christmas.

For my dear friend

In 2009 I made this Christmas card.
A while ago a dear friend of mine asked if she could use the image on her funeral card when she died.
I made her an original inspired on the Christmas mandala.
On Monday I received the card with my own mandala on the back of it.

Today she will be cremated.
I know she is at peace now. As she always was, in this life as well.
I am happy she is no longer in pain. I will miss my special friend.
I know little people who are so full of love and positivity as she was.
She was a one in a million..............
She has been my son Lars's speech therapist for over 9 years. Someone who believed in him
and loved him.
That's how we became friends.
I will be forever grateful that she came in his life and mine.

My dogs adored her, well I must say everyone who met her did.

The day she told me the bad news. Last July.
The first mandala I ever made. The canvas was not big enough ;)
(no wonder)

I did a second one years later.
My beautiful friend Goedele
I said goodbye Tuesday and on my way to the car she sent me this rainbow
I know you are home dear, you didn't even had to look for it..........

Farah step 5

All the numbers of Farah's date of birth added together gives Life Path number 4
Which means you are an excellent organizer and planner because of your innate ability to view things in a very common sense and practical way. You are a wonderful manager with a great sense of how to get the job done.Loyal and devoted, you make the best of your marriage, and you are a dependable business partner. Friends may be few in number, but you are very close to them and once friendships are made, they often last a lifetime. The number 4 is solidly associated with the element of earth from which it gains it strength and utter sense of reality. You are one of the most dependable people you know. If patience and determination can ever win, you are sure to achieve great success in life.

For this number I painted the green crcle with 4 corners and in these corners 4 little feathers with a small peacock feather as well.

Have a wonderful day today :)

Farah step 3

Farah is born in 1995
so for the 2 nines I used  my favorite lotus petals in rainbow colors.

The lotus flower is one of the most ancient and deepest symbols of our planet. The lotus flower grows in muddy water and rises above the surface to bloom with remarkable beauty. At night the flower closes and sinks underwater, at dawn it rises and opens again. Untouched by the impurity, lotus symbolizes the purity of heart and mind. The lotus flower represents long life, health, honor and good luck.

My view with Christmas lights.
My little tree :)

Have a happy weekend :)

Farah step 2

Born the 5th month. Symbolized by a Aquamarine with 5 edges.

Aquamarine is a symbol of friendship, equity, courage, purity, joy and intuition.
The Millenium ring is made with a red band with dots and sparkles

This morning we had a little snow outside........
It's beginning to look a bit like Christmas ;)

Farah step 1

this mandala I finished a while ago, but tonight Farah will get this mandala as a St. Nicolas gift from her mother, so I can finally show it.
Well at least the beginning  of it.
Farah is born on the 29th.
In the middle the 2 in orange , a sun and a moon.
For the 9 a rainbow star.
Together they form the sun moon and stars.
The 9 points star symbolizes success, stability, and positiveness.

Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend.
Here we have nothing but rain.......well and some hail.
But I had a good weekend.
Lars is home and we decorated the house for Christmas, Felix baked cookies today and I worked on a mandala and groomed the doggies. I was happy that I didn't have to go anywhere. This weather is perfect to be inside and get things done.
Too bad the yard is turning into a mud pool......  :( Happy the deer have a shed which is dry.

Glass Bead Workshop

Yesterday I went to Delft for a glass bead workshop.
Saint Nicolas also came to visit Delft
My teacher and colleague lives in a wonderful old canal house.
We had a great view
 The adventure began........................
Judith was a fun, enthusiastic and good instructor.
You can visit your website here to admire her work.
The blue one is the first bead I made!!!
Here I am wearing 2 pair of glasses (can you see them?)
While working Juut kept me company
Judith's cockatiel...............Isn't she gorgeous?!
I had to think of Teri all day :)
She fell asleep behind me
 OK, back to work
I enjoyed it thoroughly. I love glass as a material to work with.
And although making beads is difficult and certainly not something I can master in a day, I know this won't be the last time I will be doing this. I still need a lot of practice.
It is a magical and fascinating process and I see endless creative possibilities.
At the end of the day this was the bracelet I created with the help of Judith.
Four of my beads are in there!!!

Unfortunately 2 were cracked because I kept them out of the flame too long.
One I thought was too blue for the bracelet. But I am happy, proud and encouraged by the results :)
On my way home I bought 2 couches at IKEA as they had a 10 % sale.
I maneuvered with this cart through the IKEA. Can you picture it??!!
They will be delivered on Friday. Until then we have no couch as we sold ours yesterday.
The lady in the store gave me a good tip: we have inflated an airbed to serve as a couch .

It is storming outside. I am glad I don't have to go anywhere today.

Hope you will all have a wonderful weekend :)
